Raquel Caires Januario

Projects & Operations Director

As a disabled, neurodivergent mother, Raquel Caires Januario has navigated a world that often overlooks individuals like her. This journey has built a profound resilience and a passionate commitment to social justice. At Sedulous Collective CIC, Raquel sees the opportunity to unlock potential in those frequently marginalised, using her lived experience and expertise to amplify voices that deserve to be heard.“Joining Sedulous,” she says, “means standing alongside those who often go unheard, ensuring they are seen, respected and central to the decisions shaping their futures.”

Raquel’s journey into social advocacy began from her own experiences of being overlooked. Starting as a Trainee Community Researcher in 2021, she found her calling in uplifting unheard voices. Her dedication quickly led to a promotion to Project Manager in 2022, where she led impactful projects for notable clients such as King’s College Hospital and Impact on Urban Health. One of her proudest accomplishments, the Cost of Living & Multiple Long-Term Conditions 2 (QOLITY) project, redefined accessible research by integrating community and stakeholder input and validating marginalised voices through creative methodologies.

In her role as Projects & Operations Director, Raquel oversees Sedulous’s operations, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and with impact. She works closely with the Managing Director and fellow directors to build foundational systems, refine processes and guide project teams. Her work advances Sedulous’s mission, empowering marginalised communities through streamlined operations and a collaborative, inclusive environment that drives sustainable change.

Raquel’s dedication is deeply rooted in her belief that every person deserves an opportunity to thrive. Guided by a quote from Michael J. Fox—“Acceptance doesn’t mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and there’s got to be a way through it.”—she channels her experiences into action, advocating for an equitable world where diverse voices influence decision-making processes.

Outside of work, Raquel’s creativity shines through in her love for crafting, whether crocheting cosy blankets or designing custom t-shirts with her Cricut machine. She also cherishes time spent with family and friends, believing that the power of creativity and connection shapes both her personal and professional life.
