“Tools can change outcome” With every step in my career, I’ve been driven by curiosity and the desire to make a meaningful impact in the community. As a community engagement enthusiast, I am dedicated to fostering togetherness and participation within my community, work and teams. The outcomes I work towards are not limited to skills development and representation but, most notably, community cohesion and equality in opportunities for marginalised communities.
As the Head of People and Projects at Sedulous Collective CIC, I oversee the organisation’s HR. My role includes team management, project oversight, learning and development, and ensuring that teams are equipped to deliver impactful projects.
Owing to my background in psychology, a qualified youth practitioner, and the skills development facilitator at Beyond Braidz CIC, I worked with young people within academic settings and community hubs, building life skills and equipping adult women with professional and creative skills towards financial freedom and mental well-being. During these engagements, I learnt first-hand the transformative power of skills acquisition. I witnessed women come out of abusive relationships, loneliness and isolation through the community empowerment workshops and the support provided.
Meanwhile, my journey into academic research spanned from my undergraduate studies; however, my role as a community researcher and then a research project manager with Centric Community Research provided profound insights and experience into field research. My previous role equipped me with qualitative research skills and the capabilities required to bring sidelined voices to the fore of important conversations.
Sedulous represents strength and is a lived experience champion dedicated to increasing community participation in research toward a transformative impact on the lives of the communities involved in the process. The team at Sedulous have a proven track record in participatory action research through co-designs and other creative methods. The award-winning Cost of Living and MLTCs project, amongst other successful research initiatives, is a testament to a dedicated team with an impact-driven mindset.
I believe my passion aligns with the company’s goals, mission, and ethos. Moreover, my role at Sedulous provides the opportunity to lead a dedicated team, advance my skill set, and further my career development.
I look forward to working with the Sedulus team, partners, and communities from diverse ethnic backgrounds, building participatory research capabilities, and driving positive changes that impact the organisations and communities we serve.
In excitement, I anticipate innovative and creative methods for team management. Follow my journey and work with Sedulous on my LinkedIn page (Bukola Joel).
